People in Yüksekova Call for Release of Sick Prisoners

The Yüksekova Representation of TUHAD-FED (Federation of Solidarity of Prisoners' Families Associations) has sent a petition containing 50,000 signatures calling for the release of sick prisoners to the President, Prime Minister, Ministry of Justice and Parliament.

Since 8 September 50 thousand signatures have been collected by the Yüksekova office of TUHAD-FED. A press statement was read out by Leyla Baran, the Yüksekova representative of TUHAD-FED, at a rally in front of the TUHAD-FED office, attended by the BDP, Peace Mothers' Initiative and MEYADER (Mesopotamia Association of Assistance and Solidarity for Families with Lost Relatives). Placards were held aloft saying: "End torture of solitary confinement. We do not want deaths", and "Release sick prisoners".

Leyla Baran said: "The aim of our petition is to make heard the cries of the prisoners, and to call out to those whose consciences are hard for the release of sick prisoners. Every moment sick prisoners spend in prison is an inhumane torture. We are sending this petition to the President, the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Justice and Parliament to demand the urgent release of all sick prisoners."

The crowd then marched to the Post Office, where the petition containing 50 thousand signatures was sent to Ankara.
