People march against racism in Paris and Graz

The racist attack in Hanau was protested in Paris and the Austrian city of Graz.

In Paris, immigrant organizations held a demonstration and called for a joint struggle against the rise of fascism.

On 19 February, 9 people, including Kurds, were killed in an attack on two cafes carried out by a racist German citizen in Hanau.

People chanted slogans such as "No to racism, yes to solidarity" and "shoulder to shoulder against fascism".

Speakers said: "The fact that the fascist who carried out the attack in Hanau committed suicide does not change anything. Speculations about the psychology of the murderer serve only to cover up the racist and xenophobic nature of the killing."

People at the march reminded of the recent racist attacks against Alevi associations in Cologne and Marl and added that "state policies punishing or stigmatizing immigrants and refugees give space to fascists as well as killers."

Evaluating the statements of the German state after the massacre as "hypocrisy", the activists stated that the situation in France is not different.

The statement noted that the only way against fascism rising all over the world is to fight.
