People protest increase in transport prices

A 35 percent increase in transportation by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was protested. In  with actions promoted at the Mecidiyeköy Metrobus stop. The protest was organised by the People's Houses and TKH.

The reaction to the 35 percent hike made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) to transportation is growing like an avalanche.

Istanbul residents joined the protests at Mecidiyeköy Metrobus stop organised by the People's Houses and TKH.

The first protest action at Mecidiyeköy Metrobüs stop was carried out by members of the People's House with activists shouting "Reclaim transportation".

People's House Sarıyer District chair, Hülya Sapaz, reminded that transport is a public service and a fundamental right.

Reacting to the increase decision taken by the IMM, Ünal said: "In a period when the capital government increased the minimum wage by 15 percent and pensions by 6 percent, the exorbitant increase by 35 percent in transport prices is a shame."
