Stanishev described the attacks on HDP municipalities as "Erdogan's attempt to hold power, an act of democracy denial and violation of law."

Stanishev added: "We are witnessing yet another attack by President Erdogan on democracy. The Turkish president uses every method to hold on to power, including the dismissal of democratically elected opposition mayors. We strongly condemn this denial of democracy and violation of the rule of law."

Stanishev continued: "PES is in solidarity with all mayors and HDP deputies imprisoned by the Erdogan regime. You are not alone, all democrats around the world see this injustice. The progressive political family of Europe is with you. We are fighting for rights and democracy."
