Peshmerga commander in Kobanê thanks YPG

The peshmerga second-in-command in Kobanê, Amîd Deham İbrahim Gergerî, said: The YPG played a very active role in Sinjar and Rabia. We need to thank them for that. We wanted to come here. This has been an important step for the basis of future unity. We will not allow ISIS to remain anywhere where there are Kurds.”

As ISIS gang attacks on Kobanê are into their 54th day, the YPG and YPJ fighters continue to repulse all ISIS assaults. The Burkan Al Firat group, affiliated to the FSA, are fighting alongside the YPG and YPJ. A 150-strong Peshmerga force that reached Kobanê through Turkey is lending support to the YPG/YPJ fighters with mortars, katyusha rockets, artillery and anti-aircraft guns. The peshmerga second-in-command in Kobanê, Amîd Deham İbrahim Gergerî, talked to us, saying: "We are here to support our YPG brothers and sisters."

Gergerî said the situation in Kobanê was good, adding that they had repulsed a large attack three days ago together with the YPG, using heavy weaponry.

'YPG took a very active role’

"ISIS is the same ISIS, whether it be in Kirkuk, Sulaymaniyah or Kobanê. We will not permit them to rule here, as Kobanê is part of us,” added Gergerî. He continued: "The YPG played a very active role in Sinjar and Rabia. We need to thank them for that. We wanted to come here. There is absolutely no difference between the YPG and the peshmerga. They are both struggling for the people. Hopefully, this has been an important step for the basis of future unity."

‘We will not allow ISIS to remain’

Gergerî added that they hoped to give the Kurdish people good news within a few days, saying: "We will not allow ISIS to remain anywhere where there are Kurds.”
