Plaid Cymru Youth condemns US decision to abandon Kurds

"We have time to stop this, but we must act now - Turkey must be stopped."

Plaid Ifanc (Welsh party Plaid Cymru Youth) condemned the recent decision by The White House to leave northern Syria defenceless in a statement.

Plaid Ifanc called on the government of the British state to "immediately demand that NATO member Turkey ceases its preparations for the imminent invasion of the territory controlled by the Kurdish forces".

The statement added: "Any incursion will result in large scale casualties of Kurdish civilians and members of their defence force as well the likely release/escape of large numbers of ISIS prisoners captured since their defeat."

The statement continued: "History shows us that the treatment of Kurdish people within the borders of Turkey is nothing short of genocide and the growing evidence supporting the Kurdish claims that the Turkish state aided the caliphate financially adds creedence to the concerns currently raised across the international community that we are witnessing the first steps towards the deaths of thousands. We have time to stop this, but we must act now - Turkey must be stopped."
