Poland in solidarity with Kurds against Turkish invasion

"We, Poles, ask the Polish government to strongly condemn Turkey's hostilities against the Kurdish people and to take decisive actions to stop the Turkish dictator."

Since the beginning of the Turkish operation, numerous demonstrations against Turkey's activities have been taking place all over Poland.

Demonstrations have taken place or are planned for the next few days in many cities including Warsaw, Wrocław, Poznań, Katowice, Wałbrzych, Koszalin, Rzeszów, Olsztyn, Szczecin, Gdańsk, Kielce, Kraków, Radom, Białystok, Toruń, Lublin.

Demonstrators address an appeal the Polish authorities and everyone who can get involved to intensify actions against Turkey's invasion of Kurds.

The appeal reads:

"We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the genocide that Turkey is perpetrating against the Kurdish population of Rojava, with the consent of the United States and in the absence of sufficiently specific and decisive action from the rest of the world.

We appeal to the Polish government to take all possible measures that would stop Turkish aggression. When the president Donald Trump withdrew U.S. soldiers stationed near the Turkish border, he set in motion the anti-Kurdish Turkish offensive, which has been waiting for the green light for a long time. When American forces fought the Islamic State in this region for five years, their main ally was the democratic Kurdish forces, including heroic fighters. With his decision, Trump betrayed and, as it were, issued a death sentence to the Kurds there.

Kurdish soldiers are known in the world for their determination and heroism. Today, Kurdish women and their children are torn apart by missiles from the NATO arsenal - a pact in which Poland also participates. Already several hundred thousand people were forced to abandon their homes and flee or undertake an unequal fight with the Turkish army and jihadists. Women, men and children die.

At the same time, the Turkish authorities are trying to soap their eyes before world public opinion with alleged Kurdish terrorism when in fact Turkish President Recep Erdogan exterminates Kurdish people as his political opponent. In addition, these attacks have ethnic and religious purges. We were terrified and deeply sad to hear of the brutal murder of Hewrin Khalaf, secretary of the Future of Syria Party and women's rights activist.

We believe that by its inaction the world puts a hand to genocide. Therefore, we, Poles, ask the Polish government to strongly condemn Turkey's hostilities against the Kurdish people and to take decisive actions to stop the Turkish dictator. We want Poland to speak boldly, including on halting the supply of arms to Turkey and creating a no-fly zone to protect the population. We want Poland to join the EU countries that seek to launch economic and political sanctions against Turkey and to guarantee that war criminals will be tried and punished by the International Tribunal. We also call on the Polish authorities to monitor the situation in relation to respect for human rights and the further fate of refugees abandoned by Western allies and to protect their lives."

The undersigned: Koszalin Association of Local Activity of the Era of Women, Union of Ukrainians in Poland, Branch and Circle Board, Education-Equality-Activity-Dialog Foundation Era Dialog.

Conferences and meetings are also organized at which the Polish and Kurdish communities will talk about the situation in Rojava and discuss what steps can still be taken as part of the opposition. Films about Rojava will also be displayed.
