Turkish state forces have attacked the relatives of prisoners who wanted to make a press statement in front of Batman M Type Prison. 19 people were taken into custody in the crackdown.

Families of prisoners on hunger strike and death fast demanding the end of the isolation imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, continue their protests in solidarity with their children.

Prisoners’ families have gathered in front of Batman M Type Prison on Tuesday to make a statement to the press amid intense security measures of the police forces. The demonstration was not allowed citing an “order from the governor”.

Police asked the families to make their statement somewhere else, which families refused.

The families were then surrounded and attacked by the police, as a result of which a prisoner’s mother fell faint and 19 people were taken into custody, including HDP Batman provincial branch administrator İkram İrgi. The detainees were taken to Batman Security Directorate.
