Police attacked mothers with pressurized water in Amed

Mothers with white scarves protesting in Amed for their relatives on hunger strike were attacked by the police with pressurized water. Some protesters fainted.

Families in Amed have been holding marches and sit-ins to lend their voice to their children and relatives on hunger strikes protesting the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The mothers were in the streets today as well, protesting the isolation in their white headscarves and demanding that their children’s demands be met.

Mothers were supported by HDP MPs and Lawyers for Freedom Association (OHD) members.

The police surrounded the Kosuyolu Park with barricades as the mothers arrived to hold a sit-in, but were not permitted.

The mothers then started to march to the Arrestees and Convicts Families Solidarity Association (TUAY-DER).

The AKP police attacked the mothers with the TOMA water cannons used to suppress social movements. Some mothers fainted during the pressurized water attack. The police separated the mothers into two groups and the journalists following the event were also attacked by the police.
