Police attacks demonstrations against Reyhanlı massacre

Turkish police attacked Halkevi demonstrators who gathered at Yüksek Street of Ankara on Friday to condemn the Reyhanlı massacre which left at least 50 dead and more than a hundred injured in the southern province of Hatay on 11 May.

The demonstration at the first week of the massacre was also joined by members and supporters of the CHP (Republican People's Party).

“Raise your voice against war” was the slogan of the protest after which demonstrators were attacked by police with pressure water and tear gas as they started to march to the office of the Prime Minister.

“People of Reyhanlı are not alone” said demonstrators in the area where tension is reported to be continuing.

On the other hand, severe clashes broke out between police and local people in Reyhanlı who took to the streets today in mass to protest against the deadly bomb attacks. Police used intense tear gas against demonstrators among whom was also CHP Hatay deputy Hasan Akgöl.
