Police attacks march for Öcalan in Adana

Thousands of demonstrators in the southern province of Adana were attacked with gas bombs following the demonstration the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Adana organization organized on Sunday to call attention to Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan’s isolation and the hunger strike political prisoners in Turkey have staged since 12 September. Three children were injured in the police attack which came as demonstrators started a march after the demo in the district of Seyhan.

Speaking here, BDP Adana district chair Uður Bayrak voiced strong reactions against the recent KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) operation in Mersin where 25 people were sent to prison for alleged membership and leadership of an illegal organization.

Following Bayrak’s speech, the mass started a march which was severely attacked by police in front of Daðlýoðlu Police Headquarters. Gas bombs, pressure water and a yet unidentified explosive substance were used against demonstrators who therewith responded to police with stones and fireworks.
