Police raid the office of Nuriye and Semih’s lawyers

Days before the hearing of hunger strikers Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça’s case, the office of the educators’ lawyers was raided by the police. Lawyers continue to resist in the building.

Academic Nuriye Gülmen and teacher Semih Özakça were dismissed from their posts by a Statutory Decree (KHK) almost a year ago and they have been on a hunger strike to get their jobs back for the last 188 days.

Days before the hearing for the two educators on hunger strike, their lawyers’ office, People’s Law Office in Kızılay, Ankara was raided by the police. The police raided the office citing outstanding arrest warrants for lawyers Engin Gökoğlu, Didem Baysak and Ayşegül Çağatay and Engin Gökoğlu was taken in custody. Women lawyers are still in the building resisting the police trying to break the door down. They are chanting slogans and they hanged a banner that reads “Give Nuriye and Semih their jobs back” from the building.

Libertarian Lawyers Association (ÖHD), Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD) and October 10 Massacre lawyers arrived in front of the People’s Law Office building to support the lawyers.
