Preliminary meeting ahead of Geneva 3

Democratic Union Party (PYD) co-chair Salih Müslim said that the meeting to be held on May 4 is a preliminary meeting ahead of Geneva 3 and they were going to be there officially.

While international diplomatic affairs have gained momentum in order to put an end to the war in Syria, Democratic Union Party (PYD) co-chair Salih Müslim said that the meeting to be held on May 4 is a preliminary meeting ahead of Geneva 3 and they were going to be there officially.

Continuing international diplomatic affairs for putting an end to the war in Syria have gained momentum after the achievement of an agreement for the organisation of the Geneva 3 Conference again and with broader participation during the Moscow meetings held on the initiative of Russia.

PYD co-chair Salih Müslim, who is in Geneva, Switzerland for preliminary meetings of Geneva 3, said the meeting to be held on May 4 is a preliminary meeting ahead of Geneva 3 and they had received an official invitaition from UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura to attend these meetings.

The PYD hadn't been invited to the previous two Geneva conferences held on June 30, 2012 and on February 15, 2014, which excluded Kurds and the rest of opposition groups fighting against DAESH and achieved no result.

Then, executives from the PYD and Rojova cantons were officially invited to the two meetings held in Moscow on Russia's initiative on January 26 and April 5. Parties sitting at the table with the regime revealed joint will for the organisation of Geneva 3 with broader participation including Moscow attendance by abiding by the principals of Geneva 1.

EU also wants Iran in Geneva

On the other hand, a statement by the EU, following that by the UN, declared support for the participation of Iran in Geneva 3.

It was emphasised in the statement by High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, that affirmative nuclear negotiations with Iran were continuing and that as a result of these talks Iran's role could come to a more essential point in the region. In the statement which stressed that Iran was as efficient as Syria in Yemen and Lebanon, Mogherini pointed out that Iran's influence could could make a difference in the Syrian war, and called attention to the importance of attendance in Geneva 3 by all the sides influenced by this situation. Mogherini remarked that this reality could not be ignored.
