President Gül warns of 'dead end street' on motion against BDP immunity

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Turkish President Abdullah Gül has said Turkey should avoid going down a dead-end street and repeating the mistakes in the past, referring to a motion prepared by the Prime Ministry that was submitted to Parliament two days ago to strip Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputies of their parliamentary immunity.

With 'repeating the mistakes in the past', Gül referred to Democracy Party's (DEP) deputies who were stripped of their parliamentary immunity and put into jail in 1994 for alleged ties with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Referring to the statements of Prime Minister Erdoðan who has recently said that "PKK members could go to other countries in the event of laying down their arms", Gül said; "We will be sorry for any death, no matter who dies but nobody should take up arms".
