In a letter to Federal Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani, 48 political prisoners on hunger strike in Elbistan Prison asked the KRG President to support the strike of prisoners.
In the letter prisoners underlined that the Kurdish people’s struggle for freedom is not only seen as a danger but also wanted to be suppressed by the states in the territory of Kurdistan by means of military tutelage. “Any Kurd asking for peace and a free life faces despots and international colonialists”, said prisoners and underlined that they will make no concessions of their movement’s struggle for peace.
Indicating the Turkish state and the AKP government as the sole responsible for clashes in the recent term and the severe isolation and cruelty in Ýmralý, prisoners pointed out that never before in the history have so many Kurdish politicians been arrested, not even in the period of the 12 September military coup in 1980.
Referring to the ongoing hunger strikes in dozens of prisons, prisoners called on Barzani to hear the voices of prisoners risking their life for peace. “You (Barzani) have witnessed the historic tragedy of the Kurdish people and you know very well why peace has become an indispensable sacred decision for Kurds. Therefore, we hope you, as someone responsible, will display the most favorable approach in the current period”, they added.
