Prosecutor asks up to 10 years in prison for deputies meeting guerrillas

Five to ten years in prison and removal of parliamentary immunity have been asked for 10 deputies of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) in a summary of proceedings Public Prosecutor of Van has conveyed to the Minister of Justice. The summary was issued on the grounds of the deputies’ meeting and talk with a group of Kurdish guerrillas at a road control in Hakkari’s Þemdinli district on 17 August.

The fifteen-page summary of proceedings demanded trial of BDP co-chair Gültan Kýþanak, Hakkari MP Adil Kurt, Istanbul MP Sebahat Tuncel, Van MP Nazmi Gür, Bitlis MP Hüsamettin Zenderlioðlu, Aðrý MP Halil Aksoy, Mersin MP Ertuðrul Kürkçü, Hakkari MP Esat Canan, Group deputy chair Ýdris Baluken and independent Van MP Aysel Tuðluk for allegedly “aiding and abetting armed terrorist organizations PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) and KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union)”.

In the summary of proceedings, it is claimed that BDP deputies had a planned meeting with Kurdish guerrillas in order to provide a venue for the PKK to declare its policy of establishing liberated areas.
