29 members of the Association of Solidarity with Families Who Lost Their Relatives in the Kurdish liberation struggle (MEBYA-DER), including the co-chairs of the association, Şehmus Karadağ and Yüksel Almas, were detained following police raids on 27 February and 3 March. The operation was part of the investigation ordered by Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Among those detained, 7 people have been arrested on the allegation of "membership in a terrorist organization", while 8 people have been released on the condition of judicial control. The 14 members of the association held in the Police Department were transferred to the courthouse today.
Graveyard activity
Mezopotamya Agency reported that the members of the association were asked questions at the prosecutor's office about "why and whom they talked to the press about their children, HPG fighters who lost their lives in the Garê operation and whether they have engaged in an activity related to the Garzan Cemetery".
Who set up the organisation?
Association member Aysel Pehlivan was released on Monday, after remaining 6 days under police custody. She said the police asked her questions such as "Who set up MEBYA-DER and why? Why do you go to an association that was set up to make propaganda for an illegal organization? Who do you respond to? Who delivered the remains of your daughter? Who washed her remains?"
