Protest against Iranian delegation to take place in Vienna

An Iranian delegation is in Vienna from today to negotiate the nuclear dispute. Left organizations announce protests.

A delegation from the Iranian regime will be negotiating from today with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna to settle the dispute over Iran's nuclear program. The talks will take place today and tomorrow in the UNO City, where the international headquarters of the IAEA is located.

On the occasion of the talks, several organizations announced a rally in front of UNO City, including the International Socialist Alternative (ISA) and the left-wing Association for the Promotion of Liberties and Democracy in Iran. The rally is also supported by the Kurdistan solidarity campaign Rise Up 4 Rojava.

The organizations are calling for an end to cooperation with the Iranian regime, but also with Turkey. "Austria's diplomatic cooperation with the regimes of Iran and Turkey gives them further legitimacy and thus damages the movements fighting for freedom and justice there. As leftists, we stand firmly with the people who are rebelling in Iran, Turkey and Kurdistan and who, despite the many deaths and brutal repression, will not be defeated,” said a spokeswoman for Rise Up 4 Rojava.

The rally today begins at 5.30 pm, with further demonstrations to be announced.
