Protest for Kurdish politician Taşdemir in Stockholm

A demonstration was staged in Stockholm in protest at Norway’s extradition of Kurdish politician Gülizar Taşdemir to the Turkish state.

Kurds and allies came together in front of the Embassy of Norway in Stockholm for a demonstration organised by Amara Kurdish Women’s Assembly and Stockholm Democratic Kurdish Society Centre.

Carrying photographs of Taşdemir and flags of PKK, KCK and YPG, demonstrators chanted slogans condemning the Norwegian government’s extradition of Kurdish politician Gülizar Taşdemir to the dictatorial regime in Turkey.

Speaking here, Sweden Democratic Kurdish Society Centre Co-president Ferah Bozcalı accused Norway, which denied asylum for Kurdish activist Taşdemir who has been suffering from severe health problems, of violating the United Nations conventions that secure the rights of asylum seekers.

A group of women from the demonstrators held talks with officials from the Embassy of Norway. The women submitted a protest letter to the officials, stating that they condemned Norway’s attitude and that extradition of Taşdemir was against the conventions to which Norway is a party.

Protesters left a black wreath in front of the Embassy building, chanting “Shame on you, Norway”, and “Murderer Erdogan, hypocritical Norway”.
