Protesters clashed with police in Dersim last night after a police intervention in a protest against the shooting dead of Rojhat Özdel in Yüksekova turned violent.

A group of YDG-H members gathered in the Gazik (Cumhuriyet) neighbourhood of Dersim to protest at the killing by police of Rojhat Özdel in Yüksekova. The youths set off fireworks and threw molotov cocktails, following which 4 shots were fired from the police station. Shortly afterwards, police surrounded the neighbourhood and used water cannons and pepper gas against the protesters. The youths responded by setting up a barricade and threw fireworks, percussion grenades and stones.

Police armoured vehicles were set alight when they struck by Molotov cocktails before the fires were extinguished by water cannons. The clashes ended when the police withdrew from the neighbourhood, while the young people stayed at their barricades.
