Protest in Dusseldorf despite police obstruction

German police obstructed the crowd who gathered in Dusseldorf today for a demonstration for Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Kurds and their friends have taken to the streets in the German city of Dusseldorf today to protest against the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and demand his freedom.

Masses who gathered in the afternoon were prevented by the police as they were about to march with banners and flags of the YPG -YPJ which were cited as reason for the obstruction.

In protest at the police blockade, the demonstrators staged a sit-in and rally. Speaking here, FED-MED Co-president Engin Sever said; “The ban of the flags cannot make us give up on our symbols. We are the students of Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan). We do not accept the bans.”

Remarking that the YPG-YPJ have fought against ISIS and thus saved the humanity and also the European community from the barbarity of the savage mercenaries, Sever criticised the German state for turning a blind eye to the sacrifices made by the Kurds.

A German demonstrator protested the police obstruction, saying; “To you, the YPG-YPJ flags and images of Öcalan might be a piece of cloth but they are the homeland for the Kurds. The flags are their mothers, children, brothers and sisters.”
