Local people in the Hakkari district of Şemdinli have set four military check points on fire, protesting against the construction of new military posts in the region.
Villagers in the area say they will continue their actions until the construction of posts and the prevention of border trade is ended. Their actions have targeted four posts in the areas of Yeşilova (Nevberoja), Gelişen (Şapatan), Tekeli (Garê) and Derecik (Rûbarok).
Following an action targeting a military check point on Heran Bridge, a group of youngsters started standing watch at the military posts they set on fire.
The actions of local people are also being followed by the BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) and NGOs in the region.
On the other hand, the governor of Hakkari is reported to have sent local AKP administrators, AKP's Derecik Municipality Mayor Hüsnü Dinç, village headmen and village guards to the area, instructing them to stop the actions of the local people.
