Protests and hunger strikes stormed over Europe

From France to Germany, from Italy to Austria, from Sweden to United Kingdom hunger strike actions are spreading all over Europe.

Kurds living in Europe have taken to the streets in scores of cities demanding an end to the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan.

RENNES

Kurds living in the city of Rennes in France and their friends, protested against the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the threats issued by Turkey to occupy Rojava.

Activists also protested against the silence of the European states.

The hunger strike in the city of Rennes lasted 10 days and ended on Saturday afternoon with a march to the municipality. Here activists read a press statement.

 

CREIL

A protest against the isolation imposed on Öcalan was organised on Saturday afternoon by the Democratic Society Centre in Creil, France.

Activists gathered in front of Creil station carrying photos of Öcalan and Leyla Güven.

The hunger strike carried out by the HDP Hakkari deputy was saluted as so were the fast in Strasbourg and in Kurdish and Turkish jails.

MONTPEILLER

The isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan was also protested in Montpeiller, France. The march organised by Montpellier Democratic Kurdish Community Center began in Peyrou Pitot Park and continued until Comedie Square.

In his speech at the end of the march, Cevat Güneş, member of the CDK-F Co-Presidency, said that “the aggravated isolation imposed on Öcalan should be immediately removed and that the Kurdish leader should be allowed to meet with his family and lawyers.”

Güneş also saluted the action of Leyla Güven and said that millions demanded the lifting of isolation.

 

GRAZ

In the city of Graz, Austria protests were held to protest against the threats to invade Rojava issued by Turkey and the US decision to pull out of Syria.

 

OLDENBURG

A protest against isolation was organised in Oldenburg, Germany.

The action was organised to support the hunger strike carried out by Leyla Güven.

 

FREIBURG

A meeting with SPD Emmendingen MP Johannes Fechner was organised by members of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Freiburg Democratic Kurdish Community Center to talk about the hunger strike carried out by HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven.

The members of the Democratic Kurdish Community Centre informed Fechner about the indefinite hunger strike that was launched by Güven and was joined by prisoners in many jails.

Activists also expressed their concern about Öcalan's health and added that Germany and international forces should take a stance on the Turkish threats against Rojava and Northern Syria. The US decision to pull out from Syria was also discussed.

Johannes Fechner, who expressed his gratitude for the visit, said that he was following the process closely and would continue to follow the situation of Leyla Güven.

NEWPORT

The hunger strike, initiated in support of Leyla Güven, continues in Newport, Wales. Along with the indefinite hunger strike carried out by Imam Shish, Kurds are fasting in turn.

Activists said in a message that their actions will continue until the isolation is lifted. Kurdish politician Mehmet Aksoy spoke at the event and urged the Kurdish community and friends living in Wales and Britain to support the strike.

 

MALMÖ

A protest was held in Malmö, Sweden.

A statement by the organisers of the event was read at the end of the rally.

The “dirty bargains” between the US and the Turkish state were exposed in the statement. “The aim of the Erdogan regime is to eliminate the gains of the Kurdish people and to revive DAESH”, said the statement.

HANOVER

Isolation and Erdoğan's fascist attacks were also protested in Hanover, Germany.

DKTM Co-chair Ciwan Çewlig said: "Fascist Erdoğan attacks against Kurds are in front of the eyes of the world and so are his threats. The Turkey state has declared war on Kurds without permission from NATO.”

Yılmaz Kaba also spoke at the march and condemned the cooperation of the German state with Turkey. The action ended with a speech by ATIK, the Feminist Campaign.
