Protests for freedom of Öcalan in Germany and Switzerland

Protests for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan have taken place in Berlin and Hanover in Germany and Aarau in Switzerland.

Protests continue at the 22nd anniversary of the deportation of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan from Kenya to the prison island Imrali in Turkey. Various protest actions took place in Berlin, Hanover and in Aarau in Switzerland.

Berlin

In Berlin-Spandau, members of the student organizations YXK and JXK hung a banner on a bridge over a busy street. The activists set off firecrackers and shouted slogans above the banner with the inscription "Free Öcalan".

Hanover

In Hanover, the Revolutionary Youth Movement (TCŞ) carried out actions on local trains. The activists entered the trains with flags and pictures of Abdullah Öcalan and read out a speech in which they demanded the people to do something against the collaboration of the German government with AKP/MHP fascism.

Aarau

A rally was held in Aarau as part of the "Time for Freedom" campaign. Following the call of the Rojbîn Women's Council, the protesters gathered in the square in front of the train station and demanded the release of the Kurdish leader.

Ali Şimşek, co-chair of the Kurdish umbrella organization in Switzerland (CDK-S), referred in his speech to the hunger strike in Turkish prisons that has been ongoing since November 27. There, prisoners are striking in five-day shifts, demanding the lifting of Öcalan's isolation and an end to the destructive conditions in Turkish prisons. Şimşek stated, "The plot has been going on for 22 years with invasion, occupation, massacres and isolation. But we will bring the fight against the plot to success with the strength we get from Rêber Apo and victories of the guerrillas like in Gare and free our leader."

After the speeches, the action ended amid shouts of slogans.
