Protests for Kobanê in Bitlis and Doğubayazıt
Protests in solidarity with the resistance of Kobanê are continuing in Bitlis and Ağrı.
In Bitlis, people assembled under the leadership of the HDP (People’s Democracy Party) and DBP (Party of Democratic Regions) and held a march in solidarity with the resistance in Kobanê. In the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı, the shop keepers kept their shutters down.
BITLIS
The HDP and DBP organised a march in Bitlis in solidarity with the resistance of Kobanê. Many people, including the president of the DBP Bitlis branch, Mehmet Can Demir, and the co-mayor of the municipality, Hüseyin Olan, assembled in the Mahallebaşı neighbourhood, and held a march, shouting the slogans “long live the resistance of Kobanê, murderer ISIS, collaborator AKP, Kobanê will be the grave for the ISIS gangs, Long live president Apo”. The neighbourhood residents also supported the protest by banging pots and pans together. Issuing a statement after the march, Mehmet Can Demir emphasized the epic resistance being carried out in Kobanê. He said that the ISIS gangs, who have been supported by the imperialist powers, faced the heroic resistance of the YPG and YPJ fighters.
DOĞUBAYAZIT
In the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı the shop keepers kept their shutters down in order to condemn the attacks by the ISIS gangs and the behaviour of the AKP government. All workplaces were closed except the bakeries and pharmacies. The streets and the neighbourhoods are under the occupation of the Turkish police and soldiers in the district. It is expected that the DBP town organisation will issue a statement regarding the 30 people who were taken into custody 4 days ago after incidents, and the continuing siege of the police and soldiers.
