Kurdish people and their allies continue to protest the detainment of Amed Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı. Protestors warn the AKP government and state that their resistance will continue.
VAN
Hundreds of protestors including Van Co-Mayor Bekir Kaya, HDP Van Parliamentarian Lezgin Botan, KJA activists and Peace Mothers responded to the call of HDP and DBP provincial organizations and gathered on Sanat Sokağı (Art Street) to protest the detainment of Amed Co-Mayors. HDP Provincial Administrator Yunus Paris addressed the protestors, recalling that 27 co-mayors have been arrested, 34 co-mayors have been dismissed and 7 co-mayors have been issued arrest warrants so far, and 28 trustees have been appointed to municipalities across Kurdistan. Parin called for the immediate release of Amed Co-Mayors and added that the protests in Art Street would take place at 11:00 every day.
HDP Parliamentarian Lezgin Botan stated that the government has cut the internet across Kurdistan so that it can carry out its oppression easily, and said that the Kurdish movement cannot be stopped and the perpetrators of these attacks will eventually be brought to justice.
AĞRI
HDP Ağrı Parliamentarian Berdan Öztürk and HDP, DBP, KJA and Ağrı Municipality employees and the people of Ağrı came together to protest the detainment of Amed Co-Mayors. HDP Provincial Co-President Yılmaz Dursun stated that those attacking the Kurdish people and their political will are going to pay for their crimes. HDP Parliamentarian Berdan Öztürk stated that Erdoğan has been carrying out a civilian coup and establishing his one-man rule as he attacks Kurdish people and their representatives.
MUŞ
HDP and DBP Provincial administrators made a press statement in front of the HDP building in Muş. HDP Provincial Co-President Mensur Işık stated that the AKP government couldn’t yield any results because people would continue to resist, while HDP Muş Parliamentarian Burcu Çelik Özkan demanded the immediate release of Amed Co-Mayors.
URFA
HDP and DBP Provincial administrators made a press statement in front of the DBP building in Urfa. DBP Provincial Co-President Yasemin Kılıç stated that the AKP has carried out a coup against the will of the people and has been legitimizing its illegality through new decrees and attacks. HDP Urfa Parliamentarian İbrahim Ayhan said that those that defended democracy during the coup attempt are now trampling on democracy, and called upon the government to reverse its recent policies immediately.
ADANA
Many people including the representatives of the HDK, Peace Mothers, MKM and MEYADER participated in the protest organized by the HDP Adana Provincial Organization. HDP Provincial Co-President Hüseyin Beyaz addressed the protestors and said that the AKP was preparing the grounds for appointing trustees to Amed Municipality and deepening the war in the country.
ANTALYA
Kurdish people and their allies gathered in front of the HDP building in the city, condemned the detainment of Amed Co-Mayors, and emphasized that they would continue to resist the AKP dictatorship.
HATAY
HDP members and administrators came together in Hatay’s İskenderun district to protest the detention of Amed Co-Mayors, and called upon everyone to resist the unlawful and illegal policies of the AKP government.
ELAZIĞ
DBP and HDP members came together in front of the DBP building in Elazığ to protest the arrest of Amed Co-Mayors. DBP Provincial Co-President Nafiz Koç stated that the AKP government was aiming to take Kurds’ rights to do politics away, and was preparing the grounds for appointing a trustee to Amed Metropolitan Municipality.
BATMAN
KJA, HDP and DBP officials made a press statement in Batman and condemned the arrest of Amed Co-Mayors and the KJA spokesperson Ayla Akat Ata. KJA Batman spokesperson Songül Korkmaz stated that the attacks in Amed were targeting women’s representation, and reiterated that they would continue to resist such attacks. HDP Batman Parliamentarian Ayşe Başaran stated that detentions could not solve the Kurdish issue, and said that they would continue to struggle for democracy and freedom.
MANİSA
HDP Manisa Provincial Organization members made a press statement in front of their office in Yunus Emre district. HDP Provincial Co-President Ahmet Ertaş warned that if the AKP government continued its current policies, this would result in further polarization of society and do more harm than good to the society. Ertaş called upon the AKP government to put an end to its fascist and authoritarian policies immediately.
