Attacks on HDP election offices are continuing. State supported fascist groups attacked the HDP offices in the Reyhanlı district of Hatay and the Fındıklı district of Rize after the attack in Serik district of Antalya and the gun attack on the HDP HQ in Ankara. The Turkish police is continuing its attitude of not intervening in attacks.
In the Reyhanlı district of Hatay, a group of racist people organised themselves through social media by opening a page: “We do not want HDP in Hatay/Reyhanlı”, provoking people and calling on them to attack the election offices of the HDP. They tried to take down the party flags hung in the HDP’s election office.
A person named Faik Ezgi circulates provocative videos and photos on social media and says that he will not allow HDP flags in the district. He threatens people who react to him on social media. Ezgi and his friends attempted to take down the flags in the office of the HDP in the district. The HDP members did not respond, only trying to distance the attackers from the office. But the attackers continued their attempt and unfurled a Turkish flag with a picture of Atatürk opposite the party building to provoke the HDP members.
The police did not intervene and did not start any procedure, but took security measures around the HDP building and the building of the Circassian Association, which supports the election campaign of the HDP in the district.
In the meantime, an attack was carried out on the HDP office in the Fındıklı district of Rize at around 03:00 this morning. The attackers threw flammable material through the windows of the office. The inhabitants in the building noticed the fire and put it out. The fire in the office left material damage.
HDP Rize MP candidate Turgay Köse said he was called by the police at 04:00 informing him about the fire, adding that the fire was out when he reached the scene. Köse said the attack in Fındıklı was by no means independent from the attacks in Serik and Ankara, emphasising that HDP buildings are attacked whenever the Turkish president Erdoğan speaks. Köse also said that a threatening letter had been left in front of the office 4 days ago and that the police had not taken any measures despite being informed. Köse stressed that the attack was by no means an isolated event, but a pre-designed one.
