Rallies in France, England and Scotland on the global day of action to defend Kurdistan

Demonstrations and rallies took place in France, England and Scotland on the global day of action to defend Kurdistan against Turkey's military aggression.

"Defend Kurdistan" groups organised demonstrations in many countries on the Global Day of Action in defense of Kurdistan.

Demonstration in Paris

A demonstration in Paris was held under the slogan "Defend Kurdistan, defend the revolution!". Kurds and their friends gathered on the Place de la Republique and protested against Turkish expansionism and the attacks on Kurdistan.

The demonstration was supported by many organizations. On behalf of the UCL (Union Communiste Libertaire), Guillaume Davranche called on internationalists worldwide to defend Kurdistan and the revolution against Turkish occupation and to participate in the resistance alongside the Kurdish people.

Murat Ceylan from the European Kurdish Association KCDK-E said: “The guerrillas are putting up the greatest resistance in history to defend the rights of fifty million Kurds. As in Lausanne, the fascist Turkish state wants to deny the Kurdish people a status for another century. The Kurds are fighting back. As Kurdish people, we do not leave the guerrillas alone and fight against fascism and colonialism everywhere.”

Demonstration in Marseilles

The Initiative Solidaire Kurdistan 13 and many other groups and organizations took part in a demonstration in Marseille. Banners that were carried read "Defend Kurdistan, don't allow the occupation!" and "Turkey is using chemical weapons". The European ignorance of war crimes in Kurdistan was criticized by speakers who also demanded the delisting of the PKK.

Another demonstration took place in Rennes.

Demonstration in London

Internationalist groups and the Kurdish People's Council had called for a demonstration in London. Kurds, anti-fascists, anarchists, climate activists, members of the Freedom for Öcalan campaign, a solidarity group for Palestine and many other groups gathered in front of the BBC building to speak out against the war in Kurdistan. The demonstration was also attended by members of the Gik-Der association, who have started a hunger strike against the planned deportation of asylum seekers to detention centers in Rwanda.

Speakers demanded the British government to stop supporting the Turkish government, as well as to stop arms exports to Turkey and to work for a political solution to the Kurdish question. On the fringes of the demonstration, signatures were collected for the campaign to remove the PKK from the EU list of terrorist organisations. The demonstrators fended off a provocation by Turkish fascists, who were removed from the vicinity of the demonstration under police protection.

At the final rally in Downing Street, Dirk Campbell, the father of internationalist Anna Campbell, who died in Afrin in the resistance against the Turkish invasion, delivered a speech. Speakers also included those on behalf of Sinn Fein, Palestine Solidarity and Simon Dubbins for Unite the Union.

Another "Defend Kurdistan" action took place in front of the Scottish Parliament.
