Rally for Maxmur in Kassel

Protest against Turkey's attacks on the Maxmur refugee camp continue.

Dozens of people gathered at Königsplatz in the German city of Kassel to protest against Turkey’s attacks on the Kurdish Maxmur refugee camp in southern Kurdistan, northern Iraq. On 15 April, three civilians were killed in an attack by Turkish combat drones while grazing their animals. Fighter jets fly low over the camp, unsettling the population.

With banners, signs and speeches, the crowd also drew attention to the embargo to which the approximately 12,000 inhabitants of the camp have been subject for ten months. The people in Maxmur are doing everything they can to get South Kurdistan’s KDP government to finally lift the embargo, especially because medical care in the camp cannot be guaranteed in times of the Coronavirus pandemic.

"We do not want to watch any longer, we want to act urgently and we call for action! Let us defend the achievements of the Rojava Revolution, the people in Maxmur, our comrades at the front, especially here in Europe! We will not remain silent on the war against our values and against our revolution! Let us raise our voices together - against fascism and for freedom", said the organizers in their call for the rally.
