Rally in Berlin: Time for freedom, time for resistance

Under the motto "Time for Freedom", a rally was held in Berlin against the deportation of Abdullah Öcalan to Turkey 22 years ago. The theme of the demonstration was also the Turkish military aggression in the guerrilla area of Gare.

A demonstration was held in German capital Berlin on Saturday to protest the international conspiracy against Abdullah Öcalan. The Kurdish leader was abducted from the Greek embassy in Kenya's capital Nairobi to the Turkish prison island of Imrali in the Sea of Marmara on February 15, 1999. To mark the 22nd anniversary of this act conspiracy in violation of international law, in which international secret services were involved, protest events are being held around the globe this Saturday.

The Council of Free People from Kurdistan together with the Dest-Dan Women's Council promoted the demonstration in Berlin, which bore the motto "Time for Freedom". In the early afternoon, numerous people from the left and internationalist spectrum gathered at Leopoldplatz. The action began with a kick-off rally and short speeches demanding the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan as the political representative of Kurdish society.

In addition, a statement of the Executive Committee of the Peoples’ United Revolutionary Movement (HBDH) was read out. The statement began with a discussion of the Turkish invasion of the guerrilla area of Gare, which is defended by HBDH units as well as HPG and YJA-Star guerrillas. Sharp criticism was directed at the KDP as the major ruling party in the autonomous region of Kurdistan, which was accused of providing active support to the occupation operation and being a "direct ally of the occupiers". “But fascism will lose. The victory will be won by the resistance of the guerrillas," it said.

"Long live the guerrilla resistance"

Berlin city councilor Hakan Taş (DIE LINKE) was also present, as were members of the Kurdish youth organizations TCŞ and TEKO-Jin, PYD, Kurdistan Communist Party (KKP), Kurdish-Islamic Community (CIK), and activists from the Confederation of Workers from Turkey (ATIK). Loud and militant slogans were repeatedly chanted, including "Bijî Serok Apo," "Long live prison resistance," " Long live international solidarity," and "Long live guerrilla resistance." The march ended at Alexanderplatz Square.
