Raqqa health service getting on its feet again

In July 2017 the Health Committee of the Raqqa Civil Assembly was set up.

In July 2017, the Raqqa Civil Assembly’s Health Committee, established with the help of international health organizations, has reached 120,000 children with its vaccination campaign. The Committee first set a target of 105,000 children, but soon increased it.

Together with the vaccination campaign, the Health Committee also begun an awareness campaign for parents and adults.

In the second phase, which was launched in October 2017, it was the turn of children suffering from paralysis. The initial target of 130,000 children to vaccinate soon increased to 145,000.

At the same time, the health education initiative for paralysed children launched in January continues to be positive.

More committees established

The Committee has established a number of different health committees as well as immunization centres, which have also organised inspections to pharmacies in Raqqa and its surrounding.

In addition, 8 pharmacy warehouses were set up to provide150 pharmacies. Some 36 pharmacies without licenses were closed, and one laboratory was given license.

The committee also renewed the permits of al-Kisra, al-Hos, al-Mashhadani, Dar El-Shifa health centers and al-Ferat Hospital.

Health centers were opened in the Ayn Isa camp with the support of the al-Mawada section in the Hamra, Nasra and al-Kasrat regions. The al-Khatuniya Health Center in Raqqa's Al-Mashlab neighborhood was re-activated.

The Health Committee, after activating the Sef El-Dewle Health Center, set up a blood bank here. The Committee also restored the Al-Rashid Majlis School with the support of the Kurdish Red Crescent and the Italian UPP organization, and has now begun to work for the opening a health faculty in Raqqa.

Works begun at al-Watani Hospital

The Health Committee also conducted a special work on the al-Watani Hospital. After the inspections made here, the destroyed parts were cleaned and the damaged machineries were repaired. New facilities will be provided for Al-Watani Hospital.

Speaking on the subject, Raqqa Civil Assembly’s Health Committee Chairman, Ehmed Xelil, said that the Administration is trying to provide health services to citizens using all available means.

After four years of heavy occupation by the DAESH (ISIS) mercenaries, the city of Raqqa was liberated by the Syrian Democratic Forces on 20 October 2017.
