Relatives of disappeared people ask for justice

The sit-in-act by Human Rights Association (IHD) and relatives of disappeared people continued on the 210th-week with demands for the disclosure of the aftermath of people whose murders still remain unsolved.

The weekly "Find the disappeared, try the perpetrators" sit-in in front of the Right to Live Monument at Kosuyolu Park in Diyarbakır was joined by IHD executives and members, representatives of Peace Mothers Initiative, MEYA-DER, GÖÇ-DER and unions affiliated to KESK, as well as a number of relatives of disappeared people.

Speaking here, IHD Branch Chair Raci Bilici criticized the government for not ending military operations in the process of ongoing talks for peace. Bilici said that families of disappeared people are receiving news of new unsolved murders every day while waiting for justice for victims of unidentified murders.

Bilici called attention to the increasing cases of torture and ill-treatment across the country and brutal police attacks on public meetings and demonstrations. Referring to Kurdish boy Şahin Öner, who died after he was run over by an armored police vehicle during the Diyarbakır demo against 15 February conspiracy, Bilici demanded the disclosure and trial of perpetrators of Öner's death. Bilici strongly reacted to the statements of Diyarbakır Governor Mustafa Toprak who claimed that Öner died when the bomb he was carrying with an aim to throw to police exploded in his hand.
