Resistance in Amed on day 9

The resistance continues on day 9 in Amed, one of the three municipalities that were confiscated by the AKP-MHP government on August 19. Protesters are singing songs of resistance in the sit-in.

The resistance led by the HDP has entered day 9 in Amed. Protesters have launched a sit-in on the Lise Avenue like the previous days.

Turkish police have the avenue blockaded since August 19.

The police have closed off the street across from the municipality with vehicles and barricades.

HDP voters, citizens and HDP MPs Zeynel Ozen, Hasan Ozgunes, Saliha Aydeniz, Remziye Tosun, Nimetullah Erdogmus, Hisyar Ozsoy, Dersim Dag and Feleknas Uca, and Co-mayor of the Diyarbakir Metropolitan Municipality Adnan Selcuk Mizrakli are in the sit-in.

Children held signs that read, “We don’t want trustees, we want child-friendly cities” and young people were seen marching with signs that read, “Why did we die? Suruc, Ankara, Amed”.

The protest started with women singing songs of resistance on day 9. Professional organizations and trade unions TMMOB, KESK, DISK and TTB are expected to join the sit-in throughout the day.
