The indefinite and irreversible hunger strike of the Kurdish political movement’s constituents demanding immediate communication with Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan continues in its second day. The hunger strike, organised by DTK (Democratic Society Congress), HDK (Peoples' Democratic Congress), KJA (Free Women's Congress), DBP (Democratic Regions' Party) and HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party), is being participated by 50 politicians, journalists, artists and laborers.
DTK co-chair Hatip Dicle, HDP co-chairs Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş, HDK co-spokespersons Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Ertuğrul Kürkçü and HDP deputies have paid a visit to the hunger strikers today.
DTK, HDP and HDK co-chairs spoke to ANF and stated that the resistance will grow further until Öcalan is accessed.
DEMİRTAŞ: THE GOVERNMENT IS AFTER DISTORTING THE DEMANDS
HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş indicated the growing concerns over the well being of Öcalan after the coup attempt of July 15, and stated that 50 participants of the hunger strike have undertaken a historic resistance by their own will. He said the statements of the government are not satisfactory nor credible.
Demirtaş continued; "This action will not end until some news is received from Öcalan. The government is after distorting the demands at the moment. This hunger strike will of course turn into a popular movement if no news is received from a person whom 10 million people declare to be their will. This is not an issue to slur over."
YÜKSEKDAĞ: OUR DEMAND MUST BE MET IMMEDIATELY
HDP co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ also emphasised that the demand to receive news about Öcalan's safety must be met immediately.
Yüksekdağ remarked that the government will choose between wallowing in this hollow or bringing peace to Turkey by answering the humane and political demands of the people. She continued; "We will enhance the struggle to receive news from Öcalan. Everybody in Turkey should unite as a major democracy force around this demand."
DİCLE: LACK OF COMMUNICATION WITH A PEOPLE'S LEADER IS DISHONOUR
DTK co-chair Hatip Dicle pointed to worrying reports about İmralı since July 15, emphasising that Kurdish democratic politics has wanted to receive news from Öcalan but the government has turned a deaf ear to this demand since the very beginning.
"Lack of communication with a person whom a folk declared their leader is dishonour which we will not accept. I hope the government gives ear to this demand in the soonest time. We are determined on this subject and we will continue to raise our voice until we receive news from Öcalan."
KOÇYİĞİT: ÖCALAN IS A KEY ACTOR FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF PEACE
HDK co-spokesperson Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit remarked that Öcalan is a key actor for the achievement of peace. She said everybody should see the fact that resolution of the Kurdish question through democratic ways and attainment of free life in Turkey cannot be realized by excluding Öcalan.
Koçyiğit added; "The hunger strike resistance will yield a result in one way or another. We embrace this action which began with major resistance. We will attain a result by further enhancing this struggle."
KÜRKÇÜ: WE WANT TO REACH ÖCALAN
HDK co-spokesperson Ertuğrul Kürkçü emphasised that 50 participants of the hunger strike are resisting for everyone, recalling that they want to reach Öcalan and receive news from him soon.
Kürkçü added; "We want the government to explain what they hide on İmralı. It is a reality that this action makes an impression. I believe we will step up the struggle and obtain a result on the basis of this reality."
