Roboski: No justice for 34 citizens killed by warplanes
Executives and members of the Justice for Roboski Initiative, Human Rights Association (IHD), Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TIHV) and Organization of Human Rights and Solidarity for Oppressed People (Mazlum-Der) held a press conference in front of the Parliament during the Parliamentary Human Rights Commission's meeting on “Uludere Report” on Wednesday. The meeting ended up with the Commission's approval of the report on the Roboski massacre which left 34 civilians dead as a result of warplanes bombing on 28 December 2011.
The press conference was also joined by a number of human rights defenders as well as Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Ankara provincial deputy co-chair Ahmet Aday and author Temel Demirer.
Speaking here, Mazlum-Der Chairman Ahmet Faruk Ünsal criticized the report for shedding no light on the perpetrators of the mass killing. “The Sub-Commission has approved the report in line with the sense of the state, not of conscience and justice. The history and humanity will not forget those who have said yes to this report”, he said.
Speaking after, IHD President Öztürk Türkdoğan remarked that the Human Rights Commission of the Turkish parliament tried to cover up the massacre by providing no answer to the questions who gave the order to fire, why this order was given and why the victims weren't provided with immediate aid when it was seen that there had been a mistake. Türkdoğan called on the Commission to withdraw the report and to release no reports until light is shed on the massacre.
Speaking on behalf of the Justice for Roboski Initiative, Tanju Gündüzalp said that the perpetrators of Roboski Massacre must be disclosed and penalized to ensure a true peace in the country. “We know that peace needs to be built not only among the sides involved in the conflict but also on the social ground. It is agreed by everyone that this massacre which claimed the life of 34 people is a major blow inflicted on public peace and the will for a together living”, he added.
