Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Mersin MP Ertuğrul Kürkçü, Şırnak MP Hasip Kaplan and Urfa MP İbrahim Binici held a press conference in the parliament on Thursday concerning the draft report recently released by the Parliamentary Uludere Sub-Commission.
Speaking here, Ertuğrul Kürkçü said they objected to the report, explaining the reason as follows; “Had the report sought for the truth, it would have given the Parliament a great opportunity for the establishment of peace and trust in Turkey and remove the injustices in the conflict environment. However, by releasing this report, the commission has failed this opportunity”.
Kürkçü noted that there was still a chance to change the report and added the followings; “There is still a chance for the Parliament to prove that it doesn't sit back to watch the killing of 34 people by military forces. The Parliament could become an authority to reach peace and relieve the pain of the people. The government could also draw a conclusion from the objections other parties have displayed against the draft report”.
Remarking that the Sub-Commission has trampled on procedures in the works it has carried out so far, Kürkçü said that; “On the basis of the decision by five AKP members in the commission, the meeting on the draft report was held closed to the press, while on the other hand the draft report was distributed to commission members and then taken back from them after they read it. There is no need for the commission to hide the result of the report but it had such a shameful content that they want it to be discussed as late as possible”.
Kürkçü noted that the report has once again raised doubts on the Parliament and Uludere Sub-Commission and said that; “The report has failed its very mandate by not answering to questions like 'who gave the order for the aerial assault' and 'against whom a legal procedure should be launched'. The report therefore ends to be a cover up and not revealing the truth. The commission cannot justify itself by saying that it could receive no information from the General Staff and other authorities. To give an example, the report doesn't contain any of the significant information given by the Ministry of the Interior. Nor does it mention the informative reply by the General Staff which said that the operation had been carried out on the basis of the parliamentary memorandum which allows the government to dispatch soldiers to Northern Iraq and to launch cross-border operations. The report doesn't mention the fact that the operation was authorized by the government”.
Kürkçü noted that the operation wasn't grounded on any specific intelligence information.
Speaking after, Hasip Kaplan pointed out that the report has once more killed the 34 victims of the massacre.
