Rojava Kurds announce interim government

Kurds in western Kurdistan have announced the formation of an interim autonomous government following a meeting in the city of Qamıshlo on Tuesday.

"The meeting was held two days ago in the town of Qamishli between all the local groups, which discussed the project of a transitional civil administration that was put forward by the PYD earlier," the statement said.

The meeting which was attendeed by Kurdish, Arab, Chechen and Christian groups from across Kurdish-dominated areas discussed the project of transitional civil administration, presented by the PYD (Democratic Union Party) earlier. It ended with the formation of Rojava Constituent Assembly for Transitional Government, made up of 82 people representing Kurds, Arabs, Chechen and Christians in western Kurdistan.

Speaking about the details of the meeting, Rojava Constituent Assembly member Hekem Xelo said that the PYD project called for the establishment of three autonomous regions in Rojava; Efrîn, Kobanê and Cizîrê each of which will form its own cantonal assembly and have representatives at the general assembly.

Xelo remarked that the autonomous administration would prepare local and general elections, and deal with security, political and economic issues.
