Russia, US and Jordan agree on a ceasefire for southern Syria

An agreement of ceasefire in Syria has been signed following the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump at the APEC summit in Da Nang, Vietnam.

Jordanian Minister of Information and Government Spokesperson Muhammed el Mumeni stated that officials from Russia, the US and Jordan came together in Amman and reached an agreement on ceasefire in southern Syria.

Calling the agreement a step taken through triple efforts aiming to end the violence and come up with a sustainable political solution to the crisis in Syria, Mumeni said; “This agreement supports the arrangements made by the three countries on July 7 for a ceasefire along the points of confrontation southwest of Syria.

The talks started between the three countries upon the initiative of Jordan in May had ended in an agreement to promote ceasefire, deescalate tensions until a reestablishment of stability in the country and permitting of humanitarian aid access to the region.
