Şahin Öner's family denied access to autopsy report

The family of Şahin Öner, who died after being run over by an armored police vehicle in Diyarbakır yesterday, has been denied the preliminary autopsy report of their son.

High-school student 19 years-old Öner was crushed by a police vehicle as police attacked demonstrators who took to the streets today in the neighborhood of Şehitlik in Amed's Yenişehir district in protest against the 15 February conspiracy against Abdullah Öcalan, jailed leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

Öner's cousin Yasemin Öner said that hospital authorities were trying to remove evidences. “When we asked them to show us the preliminary autopsy report, they refused to give it, saying it wasn't ready yet. Nor did they give us Öner's clothes which we have heard will be given to police”, she said.

Öner's father M.Şirin Öner told the followings about his son's death; “It was 11 pm when I heard about the incident and my son's death. We are still in shock. My son was crushed to death by a panzer because we saw at the hospital that his head and skull had been smashed. He was a hardworking student at a high school. Our pain is too great”.

Human Rights Association (IHD) Diyarbakır Branch Chair Raci Bilici said that they were also denied access to the preliminary autopsy report despite all the applications they have made to Diyarbakır Courthouse.

According to several witnesses who spoke to Dicle News Agency (DIHA), Öner was taken to Şehitlik Police Headquarters in a police vehicle after the incident. “Health care teams rushed to the scene in five minutes after the incident but they couldn't find Öner there. Then they went to Şehitlik Police Headquarters upon the statements of witnesses. They waited there for half an hour before taking Öner to hospital”, said witnesses.

It has been reported that Öner was conscious and speaking when he was transferred in the ambulance and that he died before reaching the hospital.
