A heavy sandstorm raged yesterday over the northern Syrian city of Raqqa. The city was only dimly recognizable on Friday evening.

Because there were strong obstructions due to the sand storm, the traffic in Raqqa had to be stopped. In some parts of the city, in the northeast, the Internet connection was also interrupted.
