Schools boycotted in Diyarbakır
Kindergartens and the first classes of elementary schools have started yesterday in the 2014-1015 school year in Turkey and North Kurdistan. All other educational institutions will be opened next Monday.
Families in the main Kurdish city Diyarbakır have answered the call the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) made for the boycott of Turkish schools in the first week of the new school year.
Families of children at Yenişehir 5 Nisan Elementary School, Bağlar Vehbi Koç Elementary School and many others have joined the boycott on the first day of the education term to demand the recognition of Kurdish as a language of education and to protest the policies of denial and cultural massacre imposed on the Kurdish language.
