A delegation from the United Kingdom has come to Suruç in order to assess the needs of the refugees who have been forced to leave their homes because of the ongoing war in the region. Having received some information about the conditions of the refugees, the delegation visited the tent cities and the villages at the border where the resistance vigils continue.
The delegation consists of 5 people from non-governmental organisations and trade union representatives. Activists from London, Helen Steel and Zaher Aarif, and Ruth Walter, a trade unionist, and trade unionists from Scotland, Stephen Smellie and Paul Toner, have been hosted by the co-chair of the Kobanê Canton Assembly, Feyziye Abdî, People’s Democratic Congress (DTK) executive committee member Feleknas Uca and HDP party assembly member Mehmet Doymaz.
The delegation first visited the DBP Suruç branch to receive information about the latest situation in Kobanê and in Suruç. The delegation was informed about the situation of the refugees from Kobanê who had to leave the town because of the ongoing war. Following the info session at the DBP building, the delegation visited the tent cities and the villages at the border in order to assess the situation of the refugees.
