SDF and Raqqa forces launch operation against terrorist cells

Many mercenaries captured after new wave of attacks in Raqqa.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched a joint operation with the Raqqa Domestic Security Forces in the city against "terror cells" in the city of Raqqa.
It was reported that a large number of "terrorists" were captured.

SDF Press Center spokesperson, Mustafa Bali, confirmed the SDF and the Domesticc Security Forces are launching a joint operation against sleeping DAESH (ISIS) cells and mercenary groups that have been identified in the city.

"In recent days, there have been increasing terrorist attacks and incidents aimed at disrupting the atmosphere of trust in Raqqa. This adds to the increasing threats by the Turkish state and the pro-regime forces entering the city. This situation has caused anger among the people of Raqqa. Many civilians have lost their life as a result of these new attacks."

After clearing the city of the mercenaries, reminded Bali, the people took control of it. Now the threat of attack has increased, especially coming from Turkey and the Syrian regime.

"The fact that the administrators of these regions are accepted by all citizens, that the people are self-governing the city and that they demonstrate their democratic will" is something contrary to the interests of the Turkish state", pointed out Bali.

"The SDF forces, for the reasons mentioned, together with Raqqa Domestic Security Forces, launched a joint operation against sleeping terrorist cells and mercenary groups threatening the safety of the city."

Bali confirmed that "the operation is still underway" and for this reason people have been asked not to go out on the streets, since Saturday night.

"The operation is being carried out at a specific place and at specific time. So far, - said Bali - many terrorists have been caught, weapons and ammunition have been seized. Furthermore, documents have been seized showing the responsibilities of terrorist actions in Raqqa."
