Second round of discussions on immunity issue start

The second round of discussions on the Constitutional amendment proposed by AKP to lift the parliamentary immunities have started.

The General Assembly of the Parliament convened today for the second round of voting on the Constitutional amendment proposal to lift the immunities for MPs with dossiers.

Ankara MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder spoke in the name of HDP. Önder said the Parliament wasn’t taking any responsibility in stopping the deaths of the country’s own citizens and said, “There are two outcomes in a trial. You are either acquitted or you receive a sentence. What is different for politics is that there are three outcomes. The parliament, you, exist for this reason.”

Önder mentioned that the AKP MPs voted openly in the first round and continued: “Don’t fall into the contempt of showing the party commissaries how you voted, like children. So your children will not be embarassed by you tomorrow. We feel obligated to consider your honour and dignity as well. You don’t consider this, you are not even a blip in history. Today you could be an exclamation point, but you are missing the opportunity. We are the ones who make history, we will not learn history from you.”

The first round of voting for AKP’s rushed proposal was done on the night of Tuesday, May 17. Several AKP MPs were seen voting openly and the parliamentary deputy speaker had to issue repeated warnings.
