Seminar on Rojava Revolution in Hamburg

Two seminars titled “Jineology and the struggle of the Kurdish women’s movement” and “Democratic Confederalism” were held yesterday as part of the Alternative Summit held against the G-20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany.

Hundreds of organizations and institutions in pursuit of an alternative life have been holding various activities through the week against the G-20 Summit held in Hamburg, Germany today and tomorrow. 42 seminars and panel discussions were held in the Alternative Summit held on July 5-6 in this framework. Representatives from Rojava also attended this alternative summit where the Hamburg Rojbin Women’s Assembly and Kurdish Women’s Peace Bureau CENİ held a panel discussion titled “Jineology and the Women’s Struggle” and NAV-DEM held another titled “Democratic Confederalism”. There was great interest by Europeans in the discussions where panelists spoke of the Kurdish women’s struggle and the Rojava revolution.

“WOMEN IN ROJAVA ARE FIGHTING FOR US TOO”

Anja Fach and Dilar Dirik participated in the jineology discussion where Dirik spoke of the history of jineology and said: “Women have been subjected to oppression from the male-dominated ideology. They have been ignored, they have been murdered. The patriarchal system has created a science, philosophy and lifestyle devoid of women and tried to pass it off as history. Today the only reason for this crisis and chaos is the outcome of this system. If we as women didn’t object to this system, it will just continue.”

Later Fach stressed the importance of the Rojava revolution and said: “The feminism developed in the west has not been a sufficient answer to the current issues. To that end, a new and alternative system is being built in Rojava under the leadership of Kurdish women to change and transform the system. The most important aspect of this system is that it’s being created by women. The West should see that the struggle there is not just for the Middle East but for them as well, and they should support it.”

“SPREAD DEMOCRACY”

Reimer Heider from the Freedom For Öcalan Initiative spoke in the Democratic Confederalism seminar and talked about the history of Kurdistan. Heider said the democratic confederalist system is a vital necessity for all peoples today and added: “It is a system under which all peoples can live together and free. Today the state mentality has been completely exposed as not serving the peoples, so the only way to make them serve the peoples is to democratize all systems starting with states.”
