SES Amed former co-chair sent to prison

Health and Social Workers' Union (SES) Amed former Branch co-chair Recep Oruç was arrested within the scope of the DTK investigation.

Former SES co-chair Oruç was called to testify on Monday as part of an investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Democratic Society Congress (DTK).

The Prosecutor's Office sent Oruç to the magistrate on duty, demanding his arrest. The judge agreed to send Oruç to prison accused of being a "member of an illegal organisation" for his work for the DTK. The trade unionist was sent to Diyarbakır D Type Prison.

SES Amed Branch reacted to the arrest of Oruç on its social media account, saying: “Our former branch co-chair Recep Oruc was arrested after being called to give a statement. The government is trying to intimidate all those who oppose it. We will not bow to this lawlessness. We call for the release of our friend Recep immediately.”

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against the DTK. House raids were carried out in many cities on 26 June and 45 people were taken into custody. 23 of them were remanded in custody.
