Seven Kurdish youths detained in Cizre

Seven people, including two children, were taken into custody in Şırnak's Cizre district late Thursday after a deputy police chief was wounded in clashes with a group of young people Wednesday night.

Clashes broke out in the district after an official ceremony by activists of the Movement of Patriot and Revolutionary Youth (YDG-H) which declared its establishment with a celebration resembling a military ceremony. The images of the demonstration by YDG-H drew strong reactions from Turkish authorities, political parties and media that linked the demonstration to the KCK (Kurdish Communities Union). Hundreds of young activists of the movement, wearing masks, opened banners of KCK and Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan as they took an oath to provide public security and received their certificates from their leader. The group later made road control on some central streets of the district.

Thousands of special operation policemen were sent to the district yesterday to intervene the activists of the movement.

In a statement about the act by the group, KCK Executive Council Presidency denied the allegations about the relationship between KCK and YDG-H and said it was just an instance of juvenile behavior.

Referring to the comments by Turkish media which evaluated the ceremony as an attempt to sabotage the ongoing resolution process, KCK evaluated the comments as exaggerated, and said they had no information nor decision in relation to the local act of young people.

KCK pointed out that they acted in line with the resolution process, avoiding any kind of acts contrary to it, and called on all patriot youth movements to avoid this kind of uncontrolled acts that might create a trouble for the resolution process led by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
