Seventy taken into custody in İzmir

Around 70 people were taken into custody as a result of police intervention in tents protestors had set up in İzmir's central Gündoğdu Square in solidarity with the Gezi Park resistance and protests going on across the country.

Riot police surrounded the area of tents early Thursday morning. People in the tents formed a chain around the area, trying to prevent the police teams who therewith attacked the group and took seventy people into custody as tension escalated.

Two people are claimed to have been kidnapped by police with a car allegedly used by plainclothes policemen.
