Shia village attacked: 50 civilians killed

ISIS and Taliban gangs have attacked a village in Sar-e Pul in northern Afghanistan, resulting in the death of at least 50 civilians, among them women and children.

ISIS and Taliban gangs have attacked a village in Sar-e Pul in northern Afghanistan, resulting in the death of at least 50 civilians, among them women and children.

According to reports the gangs opened fire at three houses, killing also seven security officials.

Spokesperson of the state government Zabihullah Amani stated that also some foreigners had been among the attackers. Amani informed of ongoing clashes in the region and said that 50 people predominantly from the Shia Hazara tribe, among whom were also women and children, have been killed as the result of this "brutal and inhumane" attack.

Amani noted that the attack was carried out by a group of ISIS and Taliban members. The Taliban however announced to have nothing to do with the attack.

A high official from Kabul stressed that alongside security forces also warplanes have been dispatched to the embattled zone. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani issued a statement and condemned the attack.
