Shops stay closed on anniversary of Roboski massacre
Shop keepers have kept their shutters down in protest in Şırnak, Cizre, Silopi, İdil, Nusaybin, Yüksekova and Şemdinli and in Adana on the second anniversary of the Roboski massacre.
ŞIRNAK: Shop owners in the city have remained closed in protest at the Roboski massacre, with only bakeries and pharmacies open. Thousands of people left the city early in the morning to go to Roboski.
CİZRE: In the Cizre district of Şırnak province, only bakeries and pharmacies opened this morning as local people left to attend the commemoration on the second anniversary at Roboski.
SİLOPİ: In Silopi, too, shops remained closed as hundreds of people gathered in front of the BDP district office before joining a convoy travelling to Roboski.
İDİL: Also in İdil shop keepers did not open their shops as a protest on the 2nd anniversary of the Roboski massacre. The town was quiet after hundreds of people left to attend the commemoration.
NUSAYBİN: In the town of Nusaybin in Mardin province, all workplaces apart from bakeries and pharmacies remained closed. Bus loads of riot police and armoured cars were deployed in front of state offices and banks in order to 'protect' them.
HAKKARİ: In the Yüksekova district of Hakkari province shops remained closed to protest on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the Roboski massacre. At noon a press statement is to be read out at a rally in front of the Oslo hotel to condemn the massacre. Shops also remained closed in Şemdinli to commemorate the massacre and to protest at the failure to bring the perpetrators to justice.
ADANA: In Adana province shop keepers also kept their shutters down on the anniversary of the Roboski massacre. Shops in the neighbourhoods of Dağlıoğlu, Gülbahçe, Denizli, Ova, Onur, Barbaros, İsmetpaşa, Yenibey and Hürriyet in Seyhan district, the 19 Mayıs, Anadolu, Dedekorkut, Yunusemre and Koza neighbourhoods in Yüreğir district and the Küçükkırım, Yersuat and Belediye Evleri in Ceyhan district remained closed.
Many people have travelled to Roboski, where commemorations are about to commence.
